Before the Nike Air Max 1 made its official debut in 1987, the original production of the shoe was first created in 1986. We’ve all heard about the Nike Air Max 1, but its original version had a big window that could burst if cold enough. Now, over 30 years later, Nike is bringing back this OG iteration with the big bubble and all. This nostalgic sneaker is an ode to the original design, where a burst bubble wasn’t the end of the road, just the first step to a finished product.

Nike is celebrating Air Max Month and Air Max Day with a bang this year with the official re-release of the Nike Air Max 1 ‘86 Original in a ‘Big Bubble’ iteration. Releasing in men’s and women’s sizing, the heritage sneaker arrives in its debut colorway of the original running sneaker icon. This retro release utilizes an upper built from a blend of breathable mesh, synthetic suede overlays, and contrasting notes of University Red that can be found on the mudguard and signature Swoosh. Additional accents are at the molded eyelets and Nike Air branding at the tongue and heel overlays. The exposed Air-sole unit is nestled in the heel, while the polyurethane midsole and rubber outsole underneath protect the rest of the look.
